Students build knowledge by actively exploring real-world issues and problems, developing ideas and theories, and pursuing answers and solutions.
Plant life cycle
Objective: Students will observe the plant growth.
During this process students will learn the skill of observations, students will make hypothesis of the growth of the plant and develop the skill of describing what they see.
Measuring student learning by monitoring their discussions as they observe the plants and daily observations of what they see if they see any changes
Students statements: "the plants need water to grow" "why aren't they growing yet" "I see one growing" "Look at the flower" "I can see the roots" "mine is growing super fast" "its getting bigger" "It needs more water to grow" "Keep it in the sun its growing"
With the support of the educator there will be photos taken of the plants daily to assist children with monitoring the growth of the plants. Through out the week the educator will begin creating a time lapse using the real photos to help students create a conclusion
In Conclusion: Students were able to make predictions on the growth of their chia seeds, what the plant needed to grow, and observed their plant from seed, sprout, and growth. Students watered the plants daily and discussed what they saw in their plants.
FUN ACTIVITY: Students enjoyed this activity and made a great connection to the growth Spring brings. Students took home their chia seed plants and many report back that they watered their plant this morning and its still growing! tip: We used Chia seeds because they grow in about a week! Ours were ready to go home after two weeks and only need water once a day! Students were very excited and eager to show their parents, great learning experience and interactive.
